About Us

 

The documentary team that produced, recorded, directed and edited Source to Sea – the Story of the Murray Riverboats in 2001 was one of the most experienced television production crews ever assembled in Australia. Between them there was more than a century of television production experience.

Director Paul Williams has made a substantial contribution to Australian television over a lifetime in the industry. He has been a reporter, producer, director and executive producer with ABC TV and Network Ten and he is now with SBS Television.

Paul is formerly the Head of ABC News and Current Affairs, Television, Radio and Online, (1995 – 2000) the Executive Producer ABC Lateline (1993 – 1995), Associate Producer ABC Four Corners (1991 – 1992) and Executive Producer of ‘Labour in Power’ ABC TV (1991 – 1993) which was recognised with a Gold Walkley Award for the Most Outstanding Work of Journalism in 1993.

He ventured into commercial television in 1988 – 1989 as Executive Producer of Page One, Network Ten’s initial experiment with quality weekly current affairs.

He has directed and produced a significant number of ‘A Big Country’ programs on a wide range of subjects from 1979 – 1985 and introduced Jack Absalom to Australian audiences in ‘Jack Absalom’s Outback’ and thought provoking issues of sustainable land and water in the critically acclaimed television series ‘Heartland’.

Cameraman Wayne Harley (Harls) has been involved in current affairs television for more than 30 years, first as a cinematographer, then as a producer and a senior executive.

He as filmed and produced stories in more than 70 countries and collected numerous awards both nationally and internationally including two Walkley Awards and an Emmy Award nomination.

A former executive producer of the ABC’s ‘Foreign Correspondent’ program, Harls continues to contribute programs for ABC’s ‘4 Corners’ program. Harls is now in his 30th year of association with ‘4 Corners.’

Over the past 25 years he has been involved in the reporting of conflict issues in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and South East Asia and was the co-producer of the BBC’s terrorism documentary in Indonesia and the Southern Philippines.

He has a Bachelor of Arts from Curtin University, a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from ANU and is a former C.A.S. Hawker Scholar.

Both editor Mark Middis and location soundman Chris Alderton worked for premier ABC television programmes including ‘4 Corners’ and ‘A Big Country’ and are multi award winners in sound and editing. Highly regarded companies Frame Set and Match in Sydney and in Wombat Studios Adelaide completed the post-production of Source to Sea.

Executive Producer Ian Doyle has more than thirty years experience in Australian media as a reporter, broadcaster and documentary maker for ABC television’s Countrywide and Landline programmes, ABC Rural Radio and also with commercial radio and television.

His ABC radio credits include presenting the Country Hour, Australia All Over, Tony Delroy’s Nightlife and ABC Overnight and producing various radio series including Blue Hills Revisited, Great Working Dogs Stories and George Bell - the Bloke from the Birdsville Track series.

In addition to Source to Sea, Ian has produced and directed for Australian television Last Mail from Birdsville – the Story of Tom Kruse (1999), The Back of Beyond Collection (2004), Three Men and a Boat – the MFV Tacoma Story (2013) and The Mailmen Back of Beyond (2014).

Most of the documentaries have been provided as fundraisers for Ian’s preferred charity, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
